The NSW Branch of the ACS has pulled together a submission into the independent local government review. The submission was worked up by a group of volunteers acting as the “Local Government Working Group”.
Key points of the submission include:
- advocating for a flexible, collaborative, more regionally focused approach to governance based on ecosystems or sediment cells,
- establishment of a Coastal Council-type body to coordinate coastal management in NSW,
- the NSW Government must ensure that all current inquiries and reform processes marry up to provide the best outcomes possible e.g. planning reform, marine estate management, local government reform, and Stage 2 coastal management reform.
